An endless cycle of elected officials continue to shortchange their constituents with poor governance. Republican obsession with obstruction of President Obama blatantly ignores the country’s need for compromise and leadership, and is tantamount to treason. Big business owns Congress, lobbyists determine policy, while Wall Street’s reckless speculators go unpunished, and continue to award themselves huge bonuses. Power attracts sociopathic personalities, reform is not on their agenda.

Most of the US population has settled into a tacit acceptance of the system that they live under, many feeling that as individuals they are powerless to change things. I understand their sense of indifference, especially nowadays when we are forced to sumbit to a corporate media—aloof, indifferent, and bent upon peddling their own specific agenda. As a divisive presidential election looms it would be optimistic to expect anything higher than a 60% turnout, especially if the GOP can enforce laws which require voters to have photo IDs, thus excluding many of the less fortunate from the voting register, because they’ll hardly vote Republican anyway. Its easy to be pesimisitic about America, but then again I’ve been to Russia many times, and in comparison America is paradise, but what if America was to become like Russia? Thomas Jefferson once said ”the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” That sort of talk today could easily land one in prison for treason.
