NeuroMorphic Universe
Emergence, Pattern, and the Intelligence of Living Form
The NeuroMorphic Universe does not begin as a style. It begins as a condition of perception. It emerges at the moment when the logic of roots, networks, and reconstruction can no longer remain anchored to terrestrial metaphors alone. If Making Roots taught me how survival organizes itself underground, NeuroMorphic Universe lifts that same intelligence into a broader field where biology, cognition, memory, ecology, language, and material form enter a single, continuous system of relation.
This is the point in my practice where the image ceases to refer outward toward a specific object, place, or body and begins to refer inward toward the organizing principles of life itself. These works are not depictions of the brain, nor of cells, nor of galaxies. They are visualizations of how those systems think, grow, adapt, and emerge.
The term “neuromorphic” entered my vocabulary only after the work had already been behaving that way for years. The paintings and drawings had already begun to mirror the branching logic of neurons, the transmission of signals, the redundancy of pathways, the feedback loops that allow learning to occur. What the work taught me, slowly and insistently, is that intelligence is not centralized. It is distributed.
From Roots to Neural Systems
When the roots in Making Roots began to multiply, collide, split, and reform into increasingly complex networks, they exceeded the botanical. They were no longer only roots. They had become communicative systems. What had first appeared as a metaphor for belonging evolved into a structural model for cognition itself.
In NeuroMorphic Universe, that evolution becomes explicit. Pathways no longer imply soil. They imply transmission. Branching no longer implies nourishment alone. It implies information. The tree ceases to be the organizing figure. The network becomes the primary architecture.
What I came to understand is that the same logic governs multiple realms simultaneously. What happens underground happens in the nervous system. What happens in the nervous system happens in social structures. What happens in social structures happens in ecological systems. The same intelligence repeats across scale. This recognition does not collapse difference. It multiplies relation.
