In My Garden – the DNA of Memory

I walk in my Garden spreading the DNA of Memory to the seeds that grow every year. I have done this ritual every season of my adult life. Gathering pollen and transferring it to a pistil, harvesting the seeds many weeks later. I walked with my children, with my animal companions, with other loved ones. I have transported my seeds to other places so they may grow with or without me. Sometimes I have to leave these spaces behind forever and allow others to live within these memories, not knowing if they will destroy what I have created.
Many of these works use encaustic as it is a medium that preserves for thousands of years, yet it is vulnerable. Encaustic which was used by the ancient Greeks thousands of years ago is composed of bees wax with Damar resin, and a small amount of Carnauba wax for added strength and increased melting point. Paraffin and micro-crystalline wax can also be used. The majority of these works employ encaustic, but not all of them use this process.
